I collect old fabric, transform it with paint and dye, then reorganize it into a visual narrative. I love fabric the way a writer loves sentences. Even the smallest scrap holds promise. My work explores the edge between abstract and literal, canvas and quilt.
I assemble a base layer; then I look at the results to see where they lead. I work on this surface with paint, stitch and collage, often adding additional layers to clarify image or intent. The process is magnetic. An idea germinates, and then pulls me forward, until the work is done.
Last weekend to see my work up at the ALL Gallery on Market Street. The show, curated by my studio mate, Gwen Stith, features work by several current and former WASAA members, plus other Greater Boston artists
